Biography

Alasdair has acted in a wide variety of cases, in particular in planning appeals in relation to housing developments, wind farms, supermarket retailing applications and challenges to Local Development Plans. He also undertakes complex medical and dental negligence defence work. 

Alasdair has extensive experience in multi-jurisdictional mass product liability litigation. He has acted for the manufacturers of medical devices, metal-on-metal hip replacements and the painkiller, Vioxx. As a solicitor he represented the defenders in the case of McTear v Imperial Tobacco Limited 2005 2 SC 1.

Alasdair has acted for both objectors and public authorities in major public inquiries including inquiries into: the Vale of Leven Hospital C. difficile Outbreak Inquiry; Compulsory Purchase Order and Fatal Accident Inquiries, the proposed AWPR Aberdeen City Bypass; and major wind farm, housing, hotel, office and waste management planning applications.

In 2012 Alasdair was appointed a Standing Junior to the Scottish Ministers.
