Jurisprudentia heroica sive, De jure Belgarum circa nobilitatem et
      insignia.
Brussels: Balthazar Vivien, 1668. A very rare first edition of this anonymous
work on Belgian law pertaining to the nobility, their insignia, and lines
of descent, illustrated by Pieter Clouwet (1629-1670).
Clouwet came from a Flemish Family of artists and was a pupil of Theodoor
van Merlen II (1609-72). In 1645 he became a master in the Antwerp Guild
of St. Luke, of which he was Dean from 1666 to 1669. He was primarily a
reproductive engraver, copying the works of such artists as Nicolaes Berchem,
Abraham van Diepenbeek, Anthony van Dyck, Pieter van Lint, Erasmus Quellinus
and Simon de Vos. He is best known for his engravings after Rubens.
