Biography

In addition to many important cases in the Court of Session, Douglas has appeared in the Supreme Court, House of Lords, High Court of Justiciary, Sheriff Court, Scottish Land Court, Employment Tribunal, Employment Appeal Tribunal, Mental Health Tribunal and Health Professions Council.  

Douglas is a graduate of Glasgow and Cambridge universities. Prior to calling to the Bar, he was a lecturer in law and legal adviser at the United Nations. 
Douglas was appointed Standing Junior Counsel to the Scottish Executive in 2000.  Since 2012, he has been First Standing Junior Counsel to the Scottish Government.  He has been instructed particularly in administrative law, judicial review and human rights cases.  Other areas of practice include medical negligence, fatal accident inquiries and personal injuries.      
In 2014, Douglas was appointed to the A List of the Attorney General's Panel of Public International Law Counsel for the UK Government.
