Biography

Jonathan Deans can be instructed in a wide variety of areas of law, but has particular interests in public law and judicial review, professional and clinical negligence, and public inquiries, including fatal accident inquiries.

He has experience in niche areas of law including animal welfare, homelessness and housing, and immigration. He is also keen to be instructed in commercial cases, personal injury, and regulatory law.

He has undertaken pro bono work in employment and clinical negligence cases.

He was the Lord Reid Scholar for 2021 – 2022. He has been appointed as standing junior counsel to the Faculty of Advocate Complaints Committee and Disciplinary Tribunal and standing “junior junior” counsel to the Office of the Advocate General. He is a member of the Stair Society and the Scottish Planning, Local Government and Environmental Law Bar Group.
