Biography
Mark was a solicitor eight years, working in the litigation department of a large local authority. After calling to the Bar in 2011 he developed a civil practice, principally in the fields of professional negligence, property and administrative law, as well as conducting trials in the High Court as an ad hoc Advocate Depute. He was appointed a standing junior to the Advocate General in 2019 and regularly appeared in judicial review proceedings.
In 2020 Mark was appointed a full time Advocate Depute. He was appointed as Senior Crown Counsel in 2022 before taking silk the following year. During his time in Crown Office, Mark conducted trials for murder, culpable homicide, attempted murder, drug trafficking, firearms offences, causing death by dangerous driving, bribery and rape. He appeared for the Crown in the Appeal Court in substantive appeals against conviction and Crown appeals against sentence. He was also one of the panel of Advocates Depute who were responsible for Health and Safety prosecutions.
