Biography

Richard Goddard was a solicitor in private practice specialising exclusively in criminal defence for over 20 years.

He was a partner in an Edinburgh criminal defence practice for a period of 11 years. He qualified as a solicitor advocate in 2000 and was appointed a full-time advocate depute in 2011. He took silk in 2018.

In 2021 he was appointed Assistant Principal Crown Counsel before being promoted to Deputy Principal Crown Counsel in 2022. He has acted as prosecutor and defence counsel in some of the most serious and high-profile cases of recent times.
