Civil justice statistics published

New figures show a total of 77,721 civil cases were initiated in Scotland in 2015-16 – a rise of one per cent on the previous year, but a decrease of 41 per cent since current statistics began in 2008-09.
The number of personal injury cases raised in the Court of Session was down 30 per cent, due to the establishment of the Sheriff Personal Injury Court, while personal injury cases in general were five per cent lower than in 2014-15.
Sheriff courts accounted for 93 per cent of all civil law cases, and debt cases made up 45 per cent of all cases.
