Lord Mackay of Drumadoon

THE Faculty is saddened to have been informed of the death of the retired judge, the Rt Hon the Lord Mackay of Drumadoon. He was 72.

After practising as a solicitor for five years, Donald Sage Mackay was admitted to Faculty in 1976, and took Silk in 1987.

In 1995, he was appointed Solicitor General for Scotland, and later that year he took office as Lord Advocate and served until 1997.

Lord Mackay was elevated to the Supreme Courts Bench in 2000, and was appointed to the Inner House in 2010.

Gordon Jackson, QC, Dean of Faculty, said: “Lord Mackay was a big character who gave years of service to the law as counsel, law officer and judge. Our thoughts are with his family and many friends.”
