Improved format for Tumbling Lassie Seminar 2019
27 Mar
THE Tumbling Lassie Seminar is branching out on its own, after three years as an adjunct to the annual Charity Ball.
Having its own place in the calendar, the 2019 Seminar will be extended to a full day event and the date to note is Saturday, 27 April.
Bookings are now being taken for the Seminar which will focus on the problems of bonded labour in Scotland and elsewhere, and on international interventions to stop modern human trafficking.
The speakers include Professor John Cairns, of Edinburgh University, Kirsty Thomson, who leads JustRight Scotland’s anti-trafficking and exploitation centre, and John Wyllie and Kenneth Murray, both of Police Scotland.
Contributions will also be made by Kath Harper, advocate-depute, Alex Prentice, QC, and Stephen O’Rourke, QC, who were involved in a High Court servitude case either at first instance or on appeal.
Eric Robertson, Chair of the Seminar, said: “We’re excited this year to be hearing from the court lawyers who prosecuted and argued on appeal the leading bonded labour case in Scotland, with the historic ‘long view’ provided by Professor Cairns. Add in presentations from Police Scotland on evidence building and international challenges, then perspectives from those addressing trafficking issues - and we have a fascinating day in prospect. Book now!”
