Faculty welcomes new members

THE Faculty of Advocates welcomed 27 new members at calling ceremonies held on Friday last week.
They were admitted as members of Faculty by Dean of Faculty Roddy Dunlop KC and admitted to the public office of advocate by Lord Braid, Lord Cubie and Lord Ericht.
The new members are Ross Cameron, Aimee Cole, Nicola Hogg, Alan Wickham, Kevin Jarvis, Gillian Simpson, Euan Bruce, Francesca Glendinning, Mark O'Reilly, Graham MacDonald, Dominic Burke, Jonathan Campbell, Darren Cox, Edwin Sheeran, Aimee Doran, Anthony Convery, Jamie Perriam, Ysabeau Middleton, Karen Forbes, Sarah McWhirter, Nicola Ross, Graeme Milloy, Caitlin Connor, Alexander Orgill, Declan O'Keefe, Matthew McPherson and Shaun Alexander.
“In Scotland, advocates hold a public office, which was first recognised in statute by the College of Justice Act 1532. Advocates are admitted to that office by the Court. But the Court delegates the training and examination of intrants to the Faculty of Advocates and the Court will admit to the public office of advocate only individuals who have been found qualified by Faculty,” said Mr Dunlop.
The Scottish Bar is a bulwark against injustice and oppression, he said, adding that the new members were joining at “a time of challenge and one of opportunity.”
“I am delighted that you have chosen this path in your careers, and I wish you every success.”
