THIS year’s devils began their advocacy training at the Faculty of Advocates earlier this month.

The 31 aspiring advocates have started their five-week, classroom-based Foundation Course at the Mackenzie Building in Edinburgh – the first phase of their nine-month devilling training.

“As our latest cohort of devils embarks upon the final stage of their journey to become advocates, it is pleasing to see such a diverse range of knowledge and experience looking to join Faculty,” said Bruce Langlands, Advocate and Director of Training and Education at the Faculty of Advocates. “It is inspiring to see the confidence placed in us to deliver what I am confident is a world-leading advocacy training programme. An intense and challenging devilling period awaits, and I wish each of them the very best of success over the next nine months,” he added.

Advocate and Deputy Course Convenor, Tim Haddow, said: “It’s been great to meet our diverse and enthusiastic cohort of devils for this year. And, as always, we’re all very grateful for all the members of Faculty, including some of our most senior colleagues, who freely give of their time to contribute their wisdom and experience to the practical training sessions.”

This year’s devils are Luke O’Curry; Jillian Merchant; Julie Fisher; Carolyn McPhee; Iolanda Serci; Lauren Mizen; Molly Little; Poppy Mulligan; Florence Gibson; Jennifer Sillars; Miranda Cannibal;  Eve Gilchrist; Erin Grieve; Garry Ferguson; Iain Cahill; Liam Smith; Rhiannon Spear; Mitchell Abbott; Tobias Seger; Liam Kildare; Alan Calderwood; Christopher Farrell; Ryan Houghton; Edward Cadden; Danielle Clark; Foss Fairweather;  Ahmed Khogali; Iain Franklin; Gregor McPhail; Laura-Anne Langlands and Mohsen Din.
