In memoriam, The Lord Campbell of Pittenweem, CH CBE PC KC

29 Sep

FACULTY extends its condolences following the passing of former member Baron Campbell of Pittenweem.

“Ming, as he will forever be remembered, was a giant in British politics, as well as a brilliant lawyer and a talented athlete,” said the Dean of the Faculty of Advocates, Roddy Dunlop KC.

“After notable success in the world of athletics (in which he competed at the Olympics and Commonwealth Games), he called to the Bar in 1968 and took silk in 1984, before embarking on a career in politics. He served as the MP for North East Fife from 1987 to 2015, in the course of which he was Leader of the Liberal Democrats from 2006 – 2007. He was elevated to the Lords in 2015.

“Anyone who met Ming could not have been anything other than charmed by his company. He maintained strong links to Faculty throughout his career and briefly returned to active practice after his elevation to the Lords. Faculty’s deepest sympathies go to his friends and family,” said Mr Dunlop.
