Putting spotlight on new legal world

21 Jul

Shelagh McCall, QC

A SENIOR member of the criminal Bar is to help explore changes in the legal landscape and challenges raised by COVID-19.

Shelagh McCall, QC, convener of the Faculty’s Human Rights and Rule of Law Committee, will take part in a special online conference organised by the Law Society of Scotland.

The free, full-day event is on Wednesday, 29 July, and Ms McCall will be one of the speakers examining “New Age Advocacy and Digital Court Hearings”.

She said: “The increased use of digital technology in our courts presents challenges and opportunities for lawyers. I am pleased to have been asked to take part in this important conference for sole practitioners and high street firms. Preparing for a virtual hearing is about more than making sure your computer is properly set up. It requires us to think about effective participation for our clients, as well as changes to our advocacy style.”
